The National Center for Science and Civic Engagement invites you to participate in Values-based Academic Leadership to be held on September 15-16, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. A follow-up to the 2015 NCSCE Department Chairs Workshop, this retreat will bring together leaders and change-agents interested in strengthening leadership that is rooted in educational values and mission. Current and aspiring chairs, deans, and other academic administrators from all disciplines are welcome.
Since 2001, NCSCE has attracted and nurtured a community of faculty and administrators who have lead mission-centered renewal in both formal and informal education. Their long-term commitment to connecting curricular innovation and student learning to our larger civic aspirations and responsibilities has attracted 6000 educators from 500 learning institutions participating to our programs. SENCER (Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities), the signature initiative of NCSCE, was identified as a community of transformation in a recent National Science Foundation monograph on STEM education reform.
The format of this retreat will be interactive and participant-driven, with experienced chairs, deans, and professional development specialists acting as facilitators and guides leading focused discussions and problem-solving activities. The program will consist of core sessions, elective sessions, and hands-on workshop sessions that will enable participants to fully engage with topic most relevant to their goals. The format will also emphasize opportunities for participants to network and learn from each others’ experiences and expertise.
